Flying with CBD: What you need to know
There is no definitive answer to this question as regulations for flying with CBD and air travel vary by country. In the United States, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) does not specifically mention CBD in its list of prohibited items, but the agency advises that "if you're not sure whether an item is allowed in your carry-on or checked bag, put it in your checked bag."
However, under Federal law hemp derived CBD is legal under the 2018 Farm Bill and can be transported across state borders.
It may be best if CBD products are in their original packaging and do not contain any prohibited items, they should also be placed in checked luggage to avoid any confusion or delay at the security gate.
CBD and Flying with Pets
If you are planning on flying with your CBD and your pet, there are a few things you need to keep in mind. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) does not have a specific policy for CBD but they do for pets on board. Pets are considered part of your carry-on baggage. This means that you will need to have your pet in a carrier that meets the size and weight requirements for carry-on baggage.
You can find out more bout travelling with pets on the TSA's website here.
Flying with CBD oil (liquids)
When traveling with CBD oil, it is important to be aware of the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) regulations. TSA does not allow any liquids, gels, or aerosols in carry-on bags or checked baggage that exceed 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters). This includes all CBD oil products. Another reason to pack it in your checked bags.
If you choose to bring CBD oil in your carry-on bag, you must pack it in a container that is clearly labeled and placed in a quart-sized baggie.
If you are stopped by TSA for carrying CBD oil in your carry-on bag, they may ask you about it. Just check it with your luggage.
CBD is legal in all 50 states, but restrictions may apply when flying with it. Always consult with an airline before flying with CBD products.
Flying with CBD can be a confusing process. The legal status of CBD is still murky, many airline personnel are uninformed about the topic, and different countries have different policies when it comes to CBD products.
