CBD For Cats, Because 9 Lives Are Not Enough
Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a compound found in cannabis plants. Unlike its close relative THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, CBD does not produce a psychoactive effect. That means it does not create the "high" associated with marijuana use. CBD for cats is becoming increasingly popular as a means of naturally supporting health in our feline friends.
CBD works by interacting with the body's endocannabinoid system, which is a system of receptors located throughout the body that helps to regulate various functions such as sleep, appetite, pain, and immunity. When CBD is introduced into the body, it helps to restore balance within the endocannabinoid system, which can have a positive effect on us and our feline family members.
Hempseed oil is beneficial to cat health (ours included) due to the high levels of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. These fatty acids are essential for health, but the body cannot produce them on its own. They must be obtained through the diet.
Too often, us and our pets do not get enough fatty acids from the food we eat and need to supplement our diets. The ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acids is important for feline health. Ideally, the ratio should be around 3:1 However, the diet of many cats is typically around 15:1 in favor of omega-6 fatty acids. This imbalance can lead to inflammation, which is a major factor in many chronic diseases.
