Hemp plants do not require pesticides as they are naturally resistant to most attackers (#487 of the cool things about hemp). Sunflowers, conversely, are very much affected by root weevils and other attackers.

Pesticides are used to fight root weevils when growing Sunflowers in nearly all instances. These same pesticides have attributed to negative health effects and even some bird fatalities.

Hemp seeds have benefits that sunflower seeds do not.
