Vet conversation checklist

Questions to Ask Your Vet Before Combining Supplements and Medications

Senior pets often take more than one product or medication. Before combining supplements, bring the label and ask clear questions.

Care note: This checklist is for conversation planning only and is not veterinary advice.

Questions to ask

  • Is this supplement appropriate for my pet’s age, weight, and health history?
  • Could it interact with any medication my pet takes?
  • Should I avoid CBD, hemp oil, melatonin, botanicals, or joint ingredients?
  • How should I introduce the supplement?
  • What signs should make me stop using it and call you?
  • How long should I track the routine before evaluating results?

What to bring

Bring the product label, ingredient panel, current medications, current supplements, your pet’s weight, and a short note about what you are trying to support.

When to be extra cautious

Use extra caution for pets with liver or kidney concerns, seizure history, major appetite changes, pregnancy, very advanced age, or multiple medications.
